Teeth Whitening and Teeth Bleaching

Teeth whitening (aka teeth bleaching) has become a very popular cosmetic dental procedure to improve the color of one’s own natural teeth.

Tray whitening (or tray bleaching) is the most popular technique to whiten or bleach one’s teeth. We first take impressions of your teeth. Custom fitting trays are then fabricated precisely in our Orlando office to fit your teeth from the impression models. These trays are worn for an hour or two during the day or overnight depending on the type and strength of whitening or bleaching gel used. As the whitening gel is absorbed into natural tooth structure, the teeth gradually become whiter.

Advantages of teeth whitening as opposed to cosmetic bonding or porcelain veneers:

  • With teeth whitening, treatment is conservative, not invasive; no natural tooth structure is abraded or removed.
  • Teeth bleaching is less costly.
  • With teeth whitening, nothing is permanently bonded or attached to your teeth.
  • Teeth whitening requires only minor touch-up treatments every couple of years on average

Disadvantages of teeth whitening compared to cosmetic bonding or porcelain veneers:

  • Results are dependent on several applications of bleaching gel with teeth bleaching.
  • It isn’t possible to predict exactly to what shade your natural teeth will bleach with teeth bleaching.
  • We cannot change the color / shade of existing crowns, bridges, or veneers with teeth bleaching.
  • Very dark or tetracycline-stained teeth cannot always be effectively whitened with teeth bleaching.
